Western Kentucky University is hosting several events for Black history month. Some of these events have included a trivia night as well as spoken words from guest speakers.
A Tree Without Roots Cannot Grow: Beginning Steps in African Genealogy is an event led by Nancy Richey, an associate professor and reading room coordinator/ visual resources librarian at WKU. The event focuses on tracing back family history, beginning with yourself.
“African Americans can trace their ancestry but there are increased obstacles posed by slavery and other unique sets of challenges, but these obstacles can be overcome in many cases,” According to the WKU Library Calendar Website event page for A Tree Without Roots Cannot Grow. “The main challenge is getting started and getting back to 1870.”
The event will take place February 27 at 6 in the evening in the Western Room of the Kentucky Building.
