No Shave November

One WKU student is taking “No Shave November” to a whole other level.

Bryan Hartzell made the decision to shave his head for the month after having many people in his family be affected by cancer.

Hartzell also decided to run in the New Orleans Rock and Roll Marathon in March 2012, choosing the American Cancer Society as his charity.

Many different have supported his cause.

“It started off with a couple of friends and family members. It turns out that a couple of my friends posted it as a Facebook status and some of their family members and people I don’t know supported me, which is pretty awesome,” says Hartzell.

To give back to the people who’ve donated to him, he takes a picture each day of his hair growth, and dedicates the picture to them.

“I am very surprised (by the amount of money raised); it’s been 20 days and 700 dollars. I think that is incredible,” Hartzell explains.

He is halfway to his goal of $1,200.

“Once I get going and the going gets tough, I just think about the people supporting me that have been affected by cancer and that helps me keep going,” Hartzell says.
